Our Story

Home-About-1

Mangala Kshema Trust was set up in 2009, to provide a space where people from diverse backgrounds could come together to study and provide solutions to the problems that are endemic to the Upper Himalayan Region.

Based in the Uttarkashi District of Uttarakhand, we strive to address issues related to health, cultural heritage, environment, and sustainability by hosting medical camps, cultural programs, researching and preserving the local culture and environment.

Testimonials

“The MKT House in Sangrali Village is one of the most conducive environments for research and study I have ever experienced. Fully equipped to support scholars, seekers, and researchers, it offers an independent space to study and practice peacefully. The serene area, surrounded by nature, provides an unparalleled opportunity to commune with the natural world. Additionally, the chance to participate in cultural activities within the village enriches the experience, making it not just a place for intellectual growth but also for cultural immersion. The tranquil setting and thoughtful amenities ensure that my work, whether it’s in-depth research or creative exploration, is carried out in an undisturbed and inspiring manner.”

“The property owned and operated by the Mangala Kshema Trust near the village of Pata above Uttarkashi and has been an excellent and hospitable place for me to paint and write. The peaceful ambience is conducive to focus and tranquility. I have created paintings and drawings while staying there, as well as written fiction and essays. It is also an ideal space for meditation and yoga practice and for artists or academics interested in exploring the rich local culture. The proximity to Uttarkashi and Gangotri is a major added bonus.”

“The Mangaka Kshema Trust property is well suited to contemplative studies and practices. It is east facing so that the sunrise over the Himalayas brings the light of knowledge and creative inspiration directly into the pleasing structure each and every day. Having the proximity of the Bhagirathi in the valley below adds to the sanctity of the region. Adding to this the property is far enough away from the main highway so as not to be disturbed by sounds of vehicles. Thus one feels secluded and sheltered enabling introspection and contemplation. The property is a short walk to a number of surrounding shrines dedicated to local devatas where one can perform devotional practices and gain spiritual and philosophical energy. The air is clean and fresh and the structure has an open flat porch facing the East and Himalayas which is an ideal location to practice meditation, pranayama and asanas, these being the foundation of my own daily sadhana for many years. Having been to many spots around the world, studying and sharing the wisdom of Indian Knowledge Systems, this particular spot is certainly one of the most conducive places to study and practice that I have ever experienced.”
